"One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga" to air on CBS on Sunday, Nov 28 at 8pm ET. It was difficult not to feel floored by a man who has both fought in a war and won 17 Grammy Awards, and it was with this awe in mind that the audience erupted into applause as his voice rang out with the word “tonight”- I can’t help but feel as if I was a part of history in the making.Lady gaga and Tony Bennett performing at the Radio City Music Hall on Augin New York City. Owning the night with open arms and showering the audience with gracious charm, Bennett demonstrated with breathtaking clarity that neither his voice nor his charisma has suffered the dregs of time. I first saw Tony perform nearly a year ago at New York’s famous Radio City Music Hall, and felt my heart break with joy as an otherwise restless audience fell silent at his classic rendition of “The Way You Look Tonight.” His voice was just as smooth and captivating as I imagine it was six decades ago when he first began gracing the world with his music, and I felt blessed to be witnessing this seasoned jazz singer continuing his career with as much passion and enthusiasm as a pop star still in the infancy of fame. Throughout his career, Bennett has won a number of prestigious awards that commemorate his work, including 17 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement award and two Emmy Awards.ĭon’t let his age fool you-at 86, Tony Bennett is a classic, and dare I say a genius. He then suffered a slight downwards spiral both in terms of his personal life and career before staging a comeback in the late 1980s and early 1990s, putting out gold record albums again and expanding his audience to the new MTV Generation that had emerged during this time, whilst still staying true to his musical style. His artistic peak emerged in the late 50s with albums such as ‘The Beat of my Heart’ although his most famous song to date was arguably ‘I Left my Heart in San Francisco’ which was released in 1962. Bennett changed his style during this time to also encompass jazz singing. After the enormous success of this debut song, Bennett continued producing hit after hit in the 50s, including massive hit ‘Rags to Riches’.
